Department for Transport

The Department for Transport works with our agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. We plan and invest in transport infrastructure to keep the UK on the move.

RECENT DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITY TO BOOST DIVERSITY

We published a blog on the Diversity Jobs/The BIG IDEA website from Nahida to support the Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency’s Driving Examiner campaign. This ‘day-in-the-life’ blog outlined the duties Nahida had undertaken when she was previously a driving examiner, while outlining the support the agency and her colleagues were able to provide. Read Nahida’s article here: The challenges of an Asian woman growing up in western culture.

For the DVLA Senior Media Relations Manager vacancy, DfT filmed the previous post holder Helen Keates talking about the opportunity and what the role holder is likely to be working on during a typical day and provide advice to anyone thinking of applying. It has historically been difficult to attract good quality candidates to this role but the successful candidate Elin, was convinced to apply for the vacancy after watching this video, which was shared on the DfTCareers Facebook profile.

The Department has published awareness content which we link to from our DfT advertisements on the Civil Service Jobs website (CSJOBS).

When the DfT Assistant Private Secretary role was advertised, the DfT produced three videos to accompany the CSJOB advert. These videos assisted in selling the role and resulting in an increase in female, LGBT, BAME and disabled candidates.

  • The Department for Transport is delighted to support the Women in Rail Big Rail Diversity Challenge. We are passionate about getting more women into the transport sector and clear on the vital role women can play right across the industry.
