Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd is a leading manufacturer in total railway solutions, covering rolling stock, signalling, service delivery and traffic management. Our Global Head Office is located in Central London and we currently operate from project offices across the UK, several depot locations and our new state-of-the-art rail vehicle manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe.

Our Class 395 Javelin trains currently in operation on the HS1 route have proven our capability in the UK, based on a blend of British and Japanese technical expertise. The Intercity Express Programme, Abellio ScotRail franchise and contracts with First Group for their West of England and Transpennine routes will see our teams deliver over 200 new trains over the next two years.

We are now looking to expand our operations further to build upon our global reputation for quality, reliability, innovation, design and technological leadership. Hitachi Rail Europe is an equal opportunities employer and we welcome all applications, we are also a member of the WISE campaign which inspires girls and women to study and build careers using science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Hitachi Rail is committed to building and fostering diverse and inclusive teams throughout our business, so that we are truly representative of all sectors of society.

We focus on attracting and retaining talented people from diverse backgrounds, helping them to develop their skills and build a successful career with us.

We’re building an inclusive environment so that all colleagues are valued and everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and contribute to the Hitachi success story.

And we believe that a diverse workforce encourages innovation, improves productivity and brings us closer to our customers.

Our Executive and Business Leadership Teams sponsor our diversity programme, taking the lead on initiatives that improve both the quality of our external engagement and our working environment.

Our Women’s Interactive Network (WIN) provides learning opportunities, research, online connections, events, mentoring and on-going support to make Hitachi companies a more attractive place for women to work, provide advocacy for women within the company at every level, be recognised as an employer of choice for women.

We also encourage younger people to enter a career in engineering and those who could transition into a different career to come and join us in rail.

Through these initiatives and strategies, alongside our exciting plans for the future, we’re working to ensure our company environment is inclusive for all employees and customers.

We’re delighted to support The Big Rail Diversity Challenge to help raise awareness for, and promote, the benefits of gender diversity throughout the UK rail industry.
